Almost every day someone walks into our salon on Sukhumvit 46 with the same story: hair straightened in the morning, puffed up again before they reached the office. It is not a question of using the wrong products at home. In Bangkok the humidity sits above 70% for most of the year, and porous hair pulls that moisture straight out of the air until the fibre swells and loses its shape. Flat-ironing the night before does not help. You are fighting the climate with a tool that lasts six hours.

So the real question is not whether keratin works. It is which of the three you actually need, because they do different things, and most people only find that out after they have paid for the wrong one.

Standard Keratin: it repairs, it does not straighten

This is the point we explain more often than any other, because people walk in believing the opposite. Standard Keratin is not a straightening treatment. It rebuilds the fibre. Your hair comes out soft, shiny and denser to the touch. If your hair is wavy before the treatment, it will still be wavy afterwards, just healthy. Anyone who books it expecting straight hair leaves disappointed, and that is the fault of whoever failed to tell them beforehand.

Brazilian Keratin: repairs and straightens, the strongest result

This is the treatment that gives the straightest finish of the three. It repairs the fibre and relaxes it at the same time. It is what we recommend to clients with frizzy or strongly wavy hair who want to stop reaching for the flat iron every morning.

DD Keratin: repairs and straightens, with a superior formulation

DD Keratin straightens slightly less than Brazilian, and we say so plainly rather than letting anyone find out later. What it gives you instead is the highest overall quality we offer: the formulation is premium and the fibre comes out of it in better condition. Clients who care more about the health of their hair than about the most extreme straightening choose this one.

One thing we tell everyone

Keratin is not permanent, and anyone who sells it to you as permanent is not being honest. It wears off. In Bangkok it wears off faster than it would in a cooler country, because of the humidity and because most of us wash our hair more often in this heat.
