Haircuts in Bangkok: Which Shapes Actually Hold in This Humidity

Haircuts in Bangkok: Which Shapes Actually Hold in This Humidity

A haircut that works in London does not necessarily work here. We see this constantly with clients who have recently moved to Bangkok: they bring in a photo of a cut they have had for years, and within a week it stops behaving.

The reason is straightforward. Heavy blunt cuts and precise structured shapes rely on the hair sitting exactly where it was placed. In this humidity it will not. The fibre swells, the shape lifts, and what was a clean line in the mirror becomes something else by mid-morning.

What actually works in this climate

Cuts with movement built into them survive better than cuts that depend on precision. If the shape already has layers and texture, a little swelling from humidity reads as volume rather than as the cut falling apart.

Longer layers are more forgiving than short blunt ones. A long bob cut straight across will show every bit of frizz along that line. The same length with softened ends will not.

Weight removed from the interior helps thick hair enormously here. Thick hair in Bangkok does not need more length taken off, it usually needs less bulk underneath so the heat and damp have less to work with.

Matching the cut to your face

Round faces are flattered by length and by shapes that fall past the jaw, which draw the eye vertically. Square jawlines soften with layers that break the line rather than reinforce it. Long faces suit width at the sides and are not helped by very long straight lengths. Oval faces genuinely do work with most shapes, which is less exciting advice but true.

What matters more than any of this is your hair’s own texture. A cut that suits your face but fights your hair type will lose. We would rather adjust a photo you bring in than give you an exact copy that will not hold.

If you work in an office

The practical requirement most of our clients have is a shape that still looks deliberate after a commute in the heat. That usually means a cut that can be worn air-dried without looking unfinished, because styling something that will not survive the walk to the BTS is wasted effort.

Come in and we will look at your hair and your face shape together and tell you what will actually hold.
